Organizing Tip – Index Cards

We may all be familiar with flash cards, but is this all you’ve ever used index cards for? This tool can be for taking quick notes, easily sortable by course subjects. I would only write down information that I couldn’t remember. One of my college professors Dr. Trey, would let us use one index card full of notes to help us with our tests. Because the average card is only about 4″ x 6″, I really had to learn how to make the most of the space available.

In a more professional setting, index cards are also good for:

  • Maintaining client information. Store the cards on a rolodex or in a box.
  • Taking quick notes during meeting. These can be sorted by projects.
  • Presentation notes. Write down key focus points.

*TIP: Write in various colors to help you visually remember your notes. Adding stickers or drawings that relate to the study topic can also assist.

*TIP: For storage, hole punch a corner in each card and place them all on a binder ring.
